At its inception, Life Turns plans to operate one weekly camp per winter season. Camp participants will be selected with the help of Children’s Hospitals in Denver and other metropolitan areas. The camp will likely serve between ten and twenty-five children, and will include all necessary assistance personnel, whether medical or otherwise. Because the camps will take place in Crested Butte, Colorado, which sits at nearly 9,000 feet above sea level, the camp will focus on a variety of activities. The first two days will be spent doing non-strenuous activities, such as snowshoeing and sledding, that will provide ample opportunity to become acclimated to the elevation. As the group becomes acclimated, skiing and snowboarding will be the primary focus of the daily activities. There will be adequate breaks for snacks, lunch and warming up through out each day of the camp.
The evenings will be spent with a variety of team building exercises and games. Many of the dinners are going to be cooked by the campers and the staff together, with a final night celebration dinner where the entire camp – campers and volunteers - will go out to eat at a local restaurant. After-dinner board games and movies will be available for entertainment.
During the camp, a Photographer and Cinematographer will shadow the group. At the end of the session, a video will be compiled and distributed to each camper.
