“I wanted to thank you for everything you did for everyone up at camp. I had such a fun time and will never forget what you guys did for me. The experience is once in a lifetime. You are all truly special to me and you have a place in my heart forever. You are all such great people to dedicate a whole week to us, we are so lucky to have you all.

“I have to tell you how much Sam enjoyed the week in Crested Butte. He has talked non-stop about skiing, Max in the gorilla costume on April Fool’s day, dog sledding, your dogs, the house, going to a restaurant in Crested Butte, and the guy from the x-games with the metal. He tells everyone the stories.
As they were wheeling him into the operating room at Children’s Hospital, he was telling the operating room staff about the gorilla suit on April Fool’s day. When he was coming out of the anesthesia after surgery, as soon as he was able to talk, he was continuing his gorilla story to the nurses. It was nice, at that important moment in time, to focus him on what fun things had happened, rather than have him focus on what scary things were about to happen. I like to think that his attitude and thus the “tone” of the surgery was much more positive, which in my belief, means that the outcome of the surgery is much more likely to be positive.”

“Jess said you’ll be sending pictures, I can’t wait to see them. You are all very special and kind. I hope you realize how great it is for Jess to spend a whole week with kids that don’t judge or tease or feel sorry for her. She’s a real happy person and loves to be sarcastic and silly but high school is a different world and she stays under the radar so she’s not really herself there. I think she got to be herself this week, do you?”
Thanks again.
